Bread of Life, Inc. Celebrates 100 New Moms at Community Baby Shower

Bread of Life, Inc. hosted its third annual Community Baby shower on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Three years ago, Bread of Life recognized the need to celebrate and support new parents who were venturing into a new world of joy and responsibility. This year, 100 expectant mothers and their guests enjoyed refreshments, games and entertainment. At the event, participants could win prizes such as car seats, diaper bags, a bedside sleeper, a play pen, and a highchair. Bread of Life, Inc. created a makeshift store where the expecting moms had the opportunity to receive formula, bottles, diapers, clothes, pacifiers, and sanitizing bags that can be used for snacks as the child grows.

Bread of Life Academy, who already assist Houston’s historically vulnerable population through education and workforce development , and the baby shower program partner , Community Health Choice, invited the parents who may not have access to a traditional baby shower. Many of the parents come through Bread of Life’s monthly food and supply distributions and other outreach programs.

“Having a baby is not an easy feat and is often very costly,” said Dr. Morgan Rasmus, Vice President of Education, Bread of Life. “The Community Baby Shower provides parents items they need to support the start of their parenthood journey.”

Bread of Life’s community health workers work tirelessly to help lower income first-time parents. They aim to cause positive change by taking a hands-on approach to serve the Houston community, and guide community members on a path to health and wellness and a better quality of life. The Bread of Life, Inc. receives support from the Quest Diagnostics Foundation as part of the Quest for Health Equity (Q4HE) initiative. This initiative aims to address health disparities in marginalized communities across the U.S. by providing resources, funding, donated testing services, and education.

Bread of Life’s program partner,, Community Health Choice is a local, nonprofit, managed care organization committed to helping improve the health and well-being for Texas residents. The Texas Diaper Bank, Crown Crafts, EvenFlow , Lakewood Church and individual community members donated items for the shower.  If you would like to contribute to the support of families in need year-round feel free to utilize the links below:
